Paris


Paris is located on northern curve of the Seine River in the northern part of France. It includes two islands, the Île de la Cité and the smaller Île Saint-Louis. Paris covers an area of 34 square miles. It resides in the center of a sedimentary basin in the western area of the Northern Europe Great Plains. 115 feet or 35 meters above se a level is the lowest elevation.

The city has many large hills; Monmartre is the tallest at 427 feet or 130 meters.

The nightlife of Paris provides various entertainment and attractions for anyone visiting the city. There are many laid back bar-cafes, mellow jazz clubs, cabaret venues, music sites and modern dance clubs. Progressive Paris offers many nightlife opportunities for the homosexual audience. There are 8 districts for nightlife in Paris that offer entertainment for everyone regardless of their budget and style. The districts are, Bastille, Belleville, Champs-Elysées, Marais, Montmartre and Pigalle, Oberkampf, Place Vendome and Faubourg St.- Honoré, and Saint-Germain-des-Près. Bastille is exciting and busy for the mid-20s audience with many nightclubs, cafes, and bars. Belleville is known as Edith Piaf’s birthplace and offers authentic attractions. Champs-Elysées consists of high-priced attractions. Marais is the center of historic homosexual venues.


Montmartre and Pigalle offers many risqué attractions. Oberkampf is very trendy and popular with the young audience. Place Vendome and Faubourg St.-Honoré is expensive and tourists will want to dress to impress. Saint-Germain-des-Près is located on the left side of the river with many clubs and bars.
